Custom domain

Short links in your name

Serve your links from your own address, like go.yourbrand.com. Add two DNS records and Klyk handles the rest: verification, the HTTPS certificate, its renewal.

Why your domain

An address people trust

  • Links people dare to follow

Your name in the address says who sent the link before the click. A generic address says nothing.

  • An address you own

The domain stays yours: you can point it elsewhere one day without breaking what is already printed or shared.

  • HTTPS included

The certificate is issued automatically as soon as the domain is verified, then renewed without you having to think about it.

  • The root and the errors

Choose where go.yourbrand.com/ leads with no link, and where a mistyped address lands, rather than an error page.

  • A default domain

Add a domain per brand or per campaign, and choose the one new links are created on.

  • Your site untouched

If the domain already serves a site, Klyk tells you and suggests a free subdomain rather than replacing it.

Set-up

Three steps

  1. Add your domain

A subdomain like go.yourbrand.com is simplest: your site stays exactly as it is.

  2. Copy two records

A CNAME points the domain at Klyk, a TXT proves it is yours. If Klyk recognises your DNS host, it takes you straight to its settings.

  3. You are live

Verification re-runs every two minutes. As soon as the records are visible, the HTTPS certificate is issued and your links answer on your domain.

What to add

For go.yourbrand.com. The exact values, token included, are shown in your dashboard, ready to copy.

TypeNameValuePurpose
CNAMEgogetklyk.ioPoints the domain at Klyk
TXT_klyk-challenge.goklyk-verify=…Proves the domain is yours

At the root of a domain (yourbrand.com), a CNAME is not allowed: you need an ALIAS or ANAME record, offered by Cloudflare, Namecheap, Gandi, DNSimple and Porkbun among others. Otherwise, use a subdomain.

Frequently asked

Do I need to buy a new domain name?

No. A subdomain of the one you already have is enough, like go.yourbrand.com or link.yourbrand.com, and your site stays untouched on the main domain.

Does the custom domain cost extra?

No, it is included for free today, like the rest of the service. You only pay for your domain name, with your usual registrar.

How long does it take to work?

Klyk checks your records every two minutes. Depending on your DNS host, they become visible within minutes, sometimes hours, and the HTTPS certificate follows straight away.

Can I use the root of my domain?

Yes, if your DNS host offers an ALIAS or ANAME record at the root, like Cloudflare, Namecheap, Gandi, DNSimple or Porkbun. Otherwise, a subdomain only needs a CNAME.

What do people see at the root of the domain?

Whatever you choose, a page of your site for example. With nothing set, a plain error page. The same goes for a mistyped address, which you can send wherever you like.

Do my existing links change address?

No. A link keeps its address unless you move it, and new links are created on the domain you chose as default.
