Free QR code generator

A link, some text, a Wi-Fi network: type it in, pick your colours, add your logo, download. The code is computed in your browser and nothing is sent to our servers.

Content

The code leads straight to this address.

A higher level survives stains and folds better, but makes the code denser. Print it larger then.

Static or dynamic

Two kinds of QR codes

This tool creates static codes: the address is written into the modules. A Klyk account creates dynamic codes: the code holds a short link, and the link is what you edit. How a dynamic QR code works.

A QR code that scans on paper

A code that reads on screen can fail once printed. Four rules head off most bad surprises.

  • Large enough

At least 2 cm (0.8 in) across, and about a tenth of the scanning distance: 2 cm for a code read at 20 cm, 30 cm for a poster read from 3 m.

  • Dark on light

Dark modules on a light background, with real contrast. A light code on a dark background slips past many readers. The tool warns you in both cases.

  • A margin around it

An empty border of at least four modules lets the reader find the edge of the code. It is the default: do not crop it in your layout.

  • Tested on a proof

Scan a paper proof with two phones, at the real distance and in the real light. A logo and colours are checked on paper, not on screen.

Frequently asked

Is this QR code generator really free?

Yes. No sign-up, no watermark, no download limit. The code is computed in your browser, which costs us nothing and tells us nothing.

Will my QR code expire?

No. A static code holds the address itself: it depends on no service and works for as long as the page it points to exists. That is also its limit, since it can never point anywhere else.

Can I edit a QR code that is already printed?

Not a static one, whose address is written into its modules. A dynamic QR code holds a short link: you change where the link goes, and the printed code follows. That is what a Klyk account does, for free.

SVG or PNG: which format should I pick?

SVG for print: it is a vector drawing, sharp at any size, which printers and layout software accept. PNG for a screen, a document or a message: 1024 pixels across.

Why does error correction switch to H with a logo?

A logo erases the modules it covers. Level H can rebuild about 30% of the code, which leaves enough margin to read it anyway. Any lower and the code would look perfect and never scan.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. The address, the Wi-Fi password and the logo stay in your browser: the code is computed there, and nothing is sent to Klyk or to anyone else.

What if the destination changes one day?

Create the code from a short link: the same look, a destination you can change at any time, and scans counted.
